The Only Thing You Need to Know About Politics - Part 2
Remember my bold statement: The only thing you need to know about politics is that it is your sacred duty to be actively involved. That involvement can range from prayerful voting to running for President, but involved is what we are all called to be.
Civics -- BORING, right? That's what I thought at one time, but, it's quite exciting, really. The Church has not always sat on the sidelines as our nation evolved. Being as I've done the work for you, take a quick look at what I found out in the Civics department.
There would be no United States at all, without the church's direct involvement!
THE BLACK ROBE REGIMENT
During the Founding Era of US history, the British coined the title Black Robed Regiment, referring to the courageous, patriotic clergy (preachers wore black robes in those days) whom they later blamed for American independence. They did not blame George Washington, or France coming to the rescue, or the colonial rabble getting too big for our britches, and they certainly didn't blame crazy George III for over-taxation. No, they blamed the preachers, some of whom even led their congregants into battle.
In fact, the rights named in the Declaration of Independence are simply a listing of some sermon topics preached over the two decades leading up to the American Revolution!
If Christian ministers had not preached and prayed, there might have been no
revolution as yet – or had it broken out, it might have been crushed.
-Bibliotheca Sacra [BRITISH PERIODICAL], 1856
The ministers of the Revolution were, like their Puritan predecessors, bold and fearless
in the cause of their country. No class of men contributed more to carry forward the
Revolution and to achieve our independence than did the ministers. . . . [B]y their
prayers, patriotic sermons, and services [they] rendered the highest assistance to the
civil government, the army, and the country.
- B. F. Morris, HISTORIAN, 1864
The Constitutional Convention and the written Constitution were the children of the
pulpit.

There's a course called Biblical Citizenship in the Modern World that I highly recommend, designed and distributed by Patriot Academy. Biblical Citizenship is fast-paced, entertaining and downright mind-blowing. Get it for yourself, for sharing, for small groups, for homeschoolers. With that tool alone, you can make a HUGE difference and know that you're being "actively involved." It's even available in a condensed form you can do with co-workers on your lunch break! Host it in your home for neighors. Invite your pastor. Or get your pastor to let you host a group at church. Make it your Sunday School program for the next few weeks. You'll love it. But hurry...time's running out.
I like to keep these posts short, so I'll do a Part 3 on the Biblical instructions for involvement in government. There are surprises there, too. In fact, it's the coolest part! I can't wait to share it with you.
