What Are You Afraid Of?
Updated: Aug 6
At this moment, my brother is in ICU with covid pneumonia. Does that make me fear covid? No.
One nephew, his wife and a niece's husband also tested positive last week. Not only that, but my sister-in-law, fully vaccinated, has been very ill with it while my brother's been in ICU. So that's 5 in my family, simultaneously. Still, not scared of covid. I say it has to go, in Jesus' mighty Name -- the name above all names -- the name to which every knee must bow.
I have so much to say about covid and the lies surrounding it. But this post is not intended to fill you in on true current events. It's to fill you in on an ancient event: God spoke. And God's Word has not changed. It cannot change, literally. He knew when He spoke that we'd face covid, and so He sent His Word to heal us (Psalm 107:20).
So God says, "Fear not!"
Genesis 15:1 - ...Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Genesis 26:24 - ...fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.
Genesis 46:3 - ...I am God, the God of thy father: fear not...I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again...
Exodus 14:13 - Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you today
Deuteronomy 1:21 - ...fear not, neither be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 3:22 - Ye shall not fear them; for the Lord your God he shall fight for you.
Deuteronomy 20:3-4 - ...ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified... for the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
Deuteronomy 31:8 - And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
That is just a smattering of verses taken from only 3 books of the Bible -- 3 out of 66! 'Ya think maybe God doesn't want you to be fearful? It doesn't matter if your fear is covid, your financial situation, pesticides, being alone, spiders, getting stranded on the side of the road, cancer, making a fool of yourself in public, the future, death -- insert your fear of choice -- He doesn't want you to be afraid of anything.
Why is fear such a big deal to God? It's this simple: if you're in fear, you're not trusting Him to take care of you. Yet trusting God is the easiest thing in the world to do -- once you renew your mind to the truth.
And here's the truth: God loves you; He is for you not against you; He wants you to FROG (fully rely on God); if He did it for one person He'll do it for you; and He has a good plan just for you -- to live a long, happy and uniquely purposeful life. Will you go through some stuff? Sure, but the difference is, when you trust Him, Jesus will go through it with you and it will not defeat you (Psalm 34).
"But, come on...fear shouldn't be that big a deal. It's not like it's a sin, right?"
Actually, fear IS a sin, and one of God's most hated if there is such a thing:
Proverbs 28:1 - The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
So if the wicked are in fear and the righteous are not, then fearfulness = wickedness.
Deuteronomy 20:8 - And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say, ‘Is there any man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest he make the heart of his fellows melt like his own.’
Fear is a corruption that spreads.
Revelation 21:8 - But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Now there's something to be fearful of!
So, yeah, I'd say fear is a big deal to the Father. But here's the good news -- there's NOTHING to fear when you walk with God.
Proverbs 29:25 - The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
2 Timothy 1:7 - For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Want proof of outcomes?
Exodus 14:29-30 - But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
Joshua 10:13-14 - So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
Here are more:
Daniel was thrown to hungry lions, but the Lord calmed the lions and Daniel was released.
Young David became the hero of Israel when he took down the giant Philistine named Goliath with only a slingshot.
Joseph went from his brothers selling him into slavery to leader of Egypt, second only to Pharoah.
Baby Moses received a death sentence, only to become Pharoah's nephew.
Ruth went from penniless widow from a foreign, idolatrous land, to wife of highly respected and wealthy landowner, Boaz -- and ancestress of Jesus.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into a white-hot furnace for worshipping God instead of the heathen king of the day -- so hot that the men that threw them in caught fire. But Jesus hung out in the furnace with them, and they came out without even the smell of smoke on them.
And personally, I have not caught anything communicable in over 6 years, because I decided to believe what Jesus said to somebody else! The person Jesus said it to didn't implement it, but I made it my own. I walk in Jesus' immunity and you can, too. Remember, He's no respecter of persons, which means He doesn't play favorites. You can have whatever you believe Him for, no matter who He offered it to originally. If it was first for Abraham, you can have it. If it was offered to an evangelist you heard speak, then it's for you. Overhear something awesome He did for somebody you've never met? Their testimony can be your testimony if you believe. If He did it for Abednego, for Moses, for Paul, for Ruth, for Peter's mother-in-law Dorcas, for Noah, for King David, or for Mary Magdalene or for John, He'll do it for you. Then what do you have to be afraid of? If God is for you, who or what could possibly defeat you? (Isaiah 54:17)
So:
1 Corinthians 16:13 - Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
And fear not!

Kemala
